Choosing a commercial cleaning contractor: a checklist
What to ask before you appoint a cleaning contractor for your workplace.
Before you appoint a cleaning contractor, ask:
- How will you prove the work was done? Look for electronic attendance and digital checklists rather than paper sign-in sheets.
- How are staff vetted and trained? Right to work checks for everyone, DBS where your site needs it, and site-specific inductions.
- Who is my point of contact? You should have a named supervisor or contract manager.
- How are absences covered? Ask how quickly cover is arranged.
- What does the specification include? Areas, frequencies and periodic tasks should be written down.
- How is quality checked? Regular audits and reviews, with actions tracked.
- Do you pay fairly and treat staff well? Ethical employment means a more stable team.
